I was totally inspired today after my visit to the local biggest Tree and Shrub nursery located just outside my hometown Southport.
With help from Richard there manager of the cash and carry part of the wholesale business.
We walked around the many lines of last years potted trees with a customer . I was certainly in awe of the beautiful colours on display. Maybe to some they are just trees. Me, well I just love them and specially with a huge blue sky behind the branches that reach to the blue vastness. Two trees that stuck out to me where the ‘ Maidenhair Tree’ or “Ginkgo Billoba “ , native to China. With its Absolutely gorgeous fan shaped leaves , green through the spring and summer and bright Yellow leaves at this time of year! , Autumn.
Absolutely stunning! It’s Ancestry and it’s Ancient life line that dates back 290 million years ago! Crikey Mosses! . That is a long time. What these trees must of seen over the hundreds of centuries they’ve lived ? !. If they could tell what they’ve seen , what a story that be . Living in the wilds of Rustic China. In fact it probably would take more than a book , more like a series of books and no doubt the Americans would make a film out of it! . Oh yes! Also used in herbal medicine today and yesterday’s.
The other tree was the ;Pin Oak ! Oh my! ( Quercia Palustris) with its kinda conical shape and reddish leaves and native to North America . A fairly quick grower . Well if I had a biggish garden I’d certainly have these two in my collection! Beautiful!
The Pin Oak has a little history to it’s wood was used to make wooden pins for the construction industry in the olden days😉.Richards knowledge of plants and trees is magnificent. It’s very vast . Everyone has the vocation. ✅.
